I wanted to incorporate the insulin pump into my humans and technology assignment because I believe that it is such an important piece of medical technology that has positively impacted those who suffer from Diabetes. You could say that this small but expensive piece of machinery keeps the user alive, because without it blood sugars would be out of whack and could lead to some deadly concequences.

Diabetics are often told to watch their eating habits and are encouraged to work out/ exercise to stay in good health, all while maintaining good care of their and blood sugar levels. As someone who has had to deal with this disease for over 20 years, I can confirm how difficult eating healthy daily, counting carbohydrates, and not get frustrated with the disease is!

I decided to photograph my friend Josh who also has Type 1 diabetes, because he has a good ability to keep physically healthy by working out and keeping an eye on his diabetes.

I wanted to focus on how the insulin pump could be worn in many circumstances and that it isn't just for one particular type of diabetic. CEO's, gym guys, and the average Joe can sport the insulin pump and maintain a healthy lifestyle- even if you would never have guessed that they are diabetic.
