Naiads- The Water Nymphs

Updated: Oct 8, 2019

Naiads are demi-goddesses who dwell in the bright, fresh waters of ancient Greek civilizations. Naiads are ravishingly beautiful young women, with long graceful limbs and flowing hair. Their beauty is all the more devastating because they like to roam around without clothing, and many men—gods and mortals alike—have fallen under the enchantment of these enchanting women. the waters where a Naiad lives are said to absorb some of her magical qualities. Water from a Naiad’s home can heal the sick, inspire poets and prophets, and bring fertility to young women or crops. (Geller, 2016)

I relate to the story of the Naiads because these spirits are deeply attached to their home, and I feel that really resinates with me and how I was raised.

I selected this particular myth because I wanted to create a figure study- esk image in nature, and after doing some research, I discovered that by using the myth of the water nymphs that was the best type to do it.

Water nymphs are beautiful individuals (just like my model), and they have the ability to enchant those that they come in contact with- which is such a cool thing.

The images that I have attached are the ones that I found worked out the best, but I am sure that had the weather been less down pour and more grey sky- more amazing images would have been created
